How it works with a webcam
VideoBGNinja isn't a live camera plugin: it works on a file you upload. So record your webcam clip first with whatever you already use (the Camera app, OBS, QuickTime, Photo Booth or your meeting tool's record button), save it as MP4 or WebM, and drop it in. The AI then separates you from your real background.
VideoBGNinja is built for footage with a person in it: a talking head, a vlog, an interview, a dance clip. It understands what a human looks like and tracks you through the whole clip, so you don't need a green screen or special lighting. Pets and objects sometimes work too, but expect softer edges there.

Put yourself over anything

Remove the background from a webcam video
To remove the background from a webcam video, record a short clip as MP4 or WebM and upload it: up to 2 GB and 90 seconds on the free tier, with exports up to 1920 px. The AI cuts you out of the room without a green screen and gives you the webcam clip with a transparent background as a VP9 alpha WebM, plus a green-screen MP4 and an alpha matte.
As a webcam background remover it works on recordings, not on a live feed, so it will not swap your background during a call. It does take a cluttered room out of a recording, and the cut-out clip then goes over slides, gameplay or a picture. Does it replace my background live on a call?
No: it's not a live plugin. Record your webcam clip, upload it, and you get a cut-out video back to use anywhere.
How do I record a webcam clip?
Use any app you like: the built-in Camera app, OBS, QuickTime, Photo Booth, or your meeting tool's record button. Save it as MP4 or WebM.
Do I need a green screen?
No. The AI separates you from your real background, so any room works.
Is my clip private?
Yes. It's deleted right after processing and wiped within 45 minutes: nothing shared or used for training.
My webcam still looks soft even after cutting out the background
Background removal doesn't sharpen the footage itself: a low-light webcam feed stays soft. Pulling a single frame to use as a photo instead? PicReviver's unblur tool can sharpen that still up first.

Does it matter which OS I record my webcam clip on?
No: Windows, macOS or Linux all work the same way: record the clip with any app, then upload it here. The processing happens on our own server, not on your machine, and the upload is deleted right after processing and the result within 45 minutes.
Does this webcam background remover output alpha channels for an OBS Media Source?
Yes: the transparent WebM carries a real alpha channel that OBS Media Sources read natively, so it drops straight into a scene without a colour key.
My OBS video source shows a black background instead of being transparent: how do I fix that?
That's usually hardware decoding in OBS. Open the Media Source properties and untick "Use hardware decoding", and make sure you downloaded the transparent WebM, not the green-screen MP4.
Can I webcam remove background without green screen entirely, even in a cluttered room?
Yes: the AI works on any background, cluttered or not. A plain wall just gives it slightly cleaner edges to work with.
Is there a free background remover for webcam clips?
