What this video quality enhancer improves

"Bad video quality" covers several different problems. This tool fixes one of them well: footage that is small, soft or blocky from compression. Think of an old phone video, a VHS or DVD transfer, a clip downloaded years ago at 360p, or a video a messenger app squashed. For that kind of clip it:

• enlarges every frame 4× in each direction (16× the pixels): 640×360 in, 2560×1440 out;
• rebuilds fine detail and edges instead of stretching the old pixels, so text, faces and outlines stop looking mushy;
• cleans up compression blocks and mild noise along the way;
• copies your original audio track across untouched and gives you one H.264 MP4 that plays anywhere.

What it does not improve

• Out-of-focus or motion-blurred footage. Detail the camera never captured can't be rebuilt.
• Shaky video. There is no stabiliser.
• Dark or washed-out video. There is no brightness or colour correction.
• Choppy video. No frames are added; the frame rate stays the same.
• Video that is already HD. Larger clips are first fitted into 640×360 (854×480 with a pass) before the 4× pass. A sharp 1080p clip gains nothing, and a tall phone video comes back at most 1440 pixels high (1920 with a pass).
• The sound. Audio is copied, not enhanced. For a noisy recording, use the audio enhancer on CleanGrab.

Each frame is processed on its own, so very noisy footage can shimmer slightly. We would rather tell you that here than after your upload.

Enhance video quality free: the limits

Every second of video is real work for the graphics card: about seven seconds of compute per second of footage at the free size, measured on our own GPU. That is why the free limit is on length, not on quality.

No watermark on any of them. A clip over the limit is refused with a message, not cut short without telling you: trim the part you need in the video editor first.

How to improve video quality online

2. Wait while every frame runs through the model. The counter shows where it is (a 20-second clip takes about two and a half minutes).
3. Download the enhanced MP4, with your original audio.
