VideoBGNinja is a small, independent project — not a startup, not a SaaS with a sales funnel. It does one thing: it removes the background from short videos of people, free, in your browser, with no account and no watermark.
Most AI video tools charge per minute because they rent cloud GPUs, and cloud GPU time is expensive. We don't. The AI — Robust Video Matting, an open-source human-matting model — runs on our own graphics card, in our own machine. Once the hardware exists, each video only costs a bit of electricity. A few unobtrusive ads on the site pay that power bill. That's the whole business model: ads keep the lights on, you keep your money.
Because everything runs on our own hardware, your video never touches a third-party AI service. The pipeline is simple and strict: your upload is deleted the moment processing finishes, and the results (the transparent WebM, green-screen MP4 and alpha matte) are wiped within 45 minutes. Nothing is stored longer, nothing is watched, and nothing is ever used to train anything. If the server restarts, leftover files are purged too. The full details are in the privacy policy — it's short, because there isn't much data to write a policy about.
The model is trained on humans. That's why it can cut out hair, hands and moving people without a green screen — and it's also its limit. Videos of people work great: talking heads, vlogs, interviews, streamers, dance clips. Pets, products and objects are hit-and-miss, and clips without a person come out nearly empty. We'd rather tell you that upfront than promise "any video" and disappoint you after a wait.
